Finding the Still Point - Flathead Lake, Montana
A Woman's Photography Workshop

A Women’s Photography Workshop with a Twist.
September 29 – October 2, 2022
Yellow Bay on Flathead Lake, Montana
Join Barbara Michelman & Bryony Schwan for a three-day photography and self-discovery workshop on spectacular Flathead Lake—the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi with over 200 square miles of water and 185 miles of shoreline.
In this workshop you will not only learn how to focus your camera but also your mind. Each day Barbara and Bryony will help you see and capture the beauty of nature. Learn how to see and reflect the natural world in a new way and understand what limits you as a photographer and as a person. Each day we will spend time outdoors photographing followed by classroom time and meals back at our base at Yellow Bay.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Learn to make friends with your camera and find magic. Instruction includes camera basics, playing with ISOs, f-stops, lenses, file formats, composition, color, black & white, framing, knowing photo rules and when to break them. Each day will include a short photo assignment during our daily outings. Barbara will also offer instruction on Lightroom and Photoshop basics. Each day’s work will be reviewed with an eye to creating new and exciting images.
SELF-DISCOVERY
Your mind is your best friend. But it can also be your worst enemy. Your mind is constantly sabotaging your potential for both performance and happiness. All your negative emotions, including stress, are the result of self-sabotage. Bryony will lead short daily workshops and meditations on Positive Intelligence: how to strengthen the part of your brain that serves you and quiet the part that sabotages you, so you handle life’s challenges with a more positive mindset, and less stress.
DATE & TIME
Please arrive at the University of Montana Flathead Lake Biological Station at Yellow Bay by 6pm on Thursday, September 29th. The workshop will end at noon on Sunday, October 2nd. For those traveling from outside Montana, Yellow Bay is 80 miles from the Missoula airport and 30 miles from the Kalispel airport. The workshop does not include air or ground transport but we will connect participants ahead of time so carpools can be arranged.
MEALS
The workshop includes dinner on Thursday, three meals on Friday and Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. We will provide non-alcoholic beverages. Participants are welcome to bring their own wine or beer.
ACCOMODATION
Accommodation is based on single occupancy cabins. Showers and toilets are in the adjacent bath house. If you wish to upgrade to a room in the lodge with a private bathroom, please email us with your needs and we will let you know the additional cost. No upgrades can be made after September 1st.
